Bullmastiffs are massive, very powerfully built dogs. They are English Mastiff English Bulldog combinations with large, broad skulls that are wrinkled, and their muzzles are broad, deep and usually darker in color. Their foreheads are flat. Their black noses are wide and have large nostrils. Their medium sized eyes are dark hazel. Their V-shaped ears are set high and wide carried close to the cheeks giving a square appearance to the skull. Their strong tails are set high, thicker at the root and tapering and are either straight or curved, and reach to the hocks. Their backs are short, straight and level between the withers and the loin. Their short, dense, slightly rough coat comes in brindle, fawn, or red, often with black markings on their heads.
Bullmastiffs are devoted family dogs with a good-natured temperament. Docile and affectionate, but fearless if provoked, they are protective. At the same time, Bullmastiffs are tolerant of children, intelligent, even-tempered, calm and loyal. These dogs crave human companionship and are good with children.
